Two days into a ten day driving holiday in France, Mrs Larner's campervan started to overheat. Fortunately, however, Mrs Larner had taken out breakdown cover with Europ Assistance for her French holiday and we were able to help straightaway.
'I'd arranged to get to my son's house on the evening of the second day, and even when we were being towed to the nearest garage I still thought I could do it. But when the mechanics saw what was wrong with the vehicle they said I would have to stay overnight.'
Europ Assistance was happy to oblige, finding Mrs Larner a comfortable hotel which was close to the garage. We also arranged a hire car for her to use during the delay.
'The mechanics were true to their word and had the campervan ready for me the following morning, and I continued on to my sons. I was a day later than planned, but it wasn't a problem - I was on holiday after all.'
And was the rest of the holiday a success?
'Well, almost. After the cooling system had been sorted out, the campervan behaved brilliantly. But then just before we were due to board the ferry back to England, the oil cooler started playing up. I had to wait two further days in France for the vehicle to be repaired. Europ Assistance organised new ferry tickets, booked me into a hotel and sorted out another hire car. I had a very enjoyable holiday - and a very enjoyable delay into the bargain.
